Paintings finished during the "Shelter In Place".

How did I spend my time during the 2020 Covid-19 "Shelter In Place" mandate?  I painted. I am  grateful that I have a profession that allows me to create beautiful paintings from my home studio.  I had plenty of uninterrupted time (since EVERYTHING was cancelled).  And even though there was uncertainty in the world I could find beauty through my paintbrush. Here are the paintings that I finished from the end of February through the end of May:

These first few paintings below were created with Spring in mind using all the soft colors that represent the new life of plants and animals. In the months of March, April and May there were few sunny days, lots of rain soaked days.  So I painted sunny spring.

Coat of Many Colors

I sketched these two paintings months before I had the time to devote to them.  With life in "Shelter in Place" mode I definitely had the time, so I finished" Wild Child" and created "Flowers in Her Hair".  The two models for these paintings are Maison and Beecher who were dressed like this, in their every day clothes. The sunlight on their faces and the way they were dressed represents their personalities perfectly.

Watercolor 16 x 11

Wild Child
Watercolor 15 x 15

These two paintings were just focused on composition.

Red Trillium Gallery in downtown Historic Troutdale is where this painting is going.  Troutdale is the gateway to the Columbia River Gorge.  It is where the Historic Columbia River Highway begins and takes you on a scenic drive through some of the most beautiful, waterfall filled scenes in the Pacific Northwest.  This painting "Multnomah Falls" was created specifically for Red Trillium Gallery were tourists and locals alike seek paintings of the majestic waterfalls and surrounding areas.
Multnomah Falls, Columbia River Gorge
30 x 40 x1.5
Acrylic on Gallery Wrap Canvas
$900

This Multnomah Falls watercolor painting, I used only two colors, Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue. I wanted this painting to represent the exact subject I've painted multiple times, Multnomah Falls, but a focus on VALUES instead of all the seasonal colors I've used in other paintings.  The values effectively show the structure of the granite cliffs, the power of the water as it travels it's path from mountain top to the Columbia River, and the trees and foliage without getting lost in the colors.
Multnomah Falls
Watercolor
15 x 23 unframed
$225

"Funky Owls" are paintings I had fun with.  They were originally 9 x 12 traditional watercolor paintings of owls that were fine but not great.  So during the "Shelter in Place" I funked them up a bit with playful colors, a bit of stenciling and some metallic paint.  Now I love them!
