Experimenting with plein air painting I visited Columbia View Lavender Farm and created a couple of on sight, quick watercolor paintings.  This painting is currently showing at:

Columbia View Lavender Farm - Corbett Oregon

Bates Lavender Farm on Bell Road in Corbett, Oregon was my next paint out for a sketchbook painting. August is the perfect time to view lavender in full bloom.  The fragrance is an added bonus.

It's Here, It's There, It's Everywhere

My painting "Fulani Hersdman" is top middle
I have two paintings in this local art show.  It runs from May 14 - August 8.

Fulani Herdsman

"Fulani Herdsman"

Dan, a nephew, who lives in Africa, works with the local people installing water and irrigation systems for the country of Nigeria.  Fulani Herdsmen are nomadic or semi-nomadic Fulani people whose primary occupation is raising livestock.  This man and an associate came through the irrigation project herding animals looking to find grazing ground.  There is a conflict between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria's middle farm belt. This man and his associate were peaceful.

Corbett Hill Road

"Corbett Hill Road"

One of my favorite scenes from my corner of the Pacific Northwest.  I live and paint in Corbett, Oregon.  As you descend the steep and winding, Corbett Hill Road from the Old Historic Scenic Highway, you come to this spot. It is stunning. I always have to pause and take in the view.  It is your first glimpse of the Columbia river and the sun keeps part of it in shadow most of the day.    It changes dramatically with the seasons and at different times of the day.  I've painted it in every season of the year.

Spring is just around the corner

I channeled Fabio Cembranelli, a Brazilian watercolor artist, to paint this greeting card.  He uses a very wet in wet, free motion approach to his floral paintings.  I thought I'd give it a go.  I still have snow on the ground outside my studio so visions of summer were called for today.

MtView-Fruitstand
On a drive through what is known as the "Apple Loop" near Hood River, Oregon in September, I was on a mission to find a beautiful Mt. Hood view for my painting series of the Columbia River Gorge.  I was a beautiful clear day and I made many stops and found peeks of the mountain from different farms and vantage points.

The Mt. View Orchards weathered sign was what I was looking for.  A friend had suggested that I stop there.  The fruit was delicious, the view of Mount Hood was spectacular, but the mountain with the rows of late season Dahlias growing in the foreground was the inspiration I was looking for.  I knew it would become a painting.
